HID Global Wins George Mason University

Austin-based secure identity products and identity card provider HID Global has won a deal at George Mason University, to provide ID cards to that school's students, the company reported today. Financial impact of the deal were not announced. HID Global said that George Mason has upgraded its ID cards, migrating its students from a legacy magnetic stripe system to a new, contactless ID card system that works across the university's campus. The new card works on everything from paying for food at the cafeteria, to opening up doors on campus residence halls. HID Global said that so far, it has deployed 3,500 card readers across campus, and issued more than 12,000 new ID cards to incoming freshman; the migration is expected to be complete by 2017.
