HID Global Takes On Security Via Smartphone At Vanderbilt

Austin-based HID Global--best known for its access card readers and other physical security products--says it has deployed its new Bluetooth-based smartphone technology to help secure Vanderbilt University. HID said that, in a pilot program at Tennessee-based Vanderbilt University, it ran a 15-person pilot to let people open doors using their smartphone around six campus entry points and a parking garage. HID Global did not say if Vanderbilt plans to roll out the support for the readers further, however, it sounds like the university will be installing Bluetooth-capable card readers from HID in new building.
