Google Buys More Wind Power In Texas

Internet giant Google is expanding its alternative energy investment efforts via a deal in Texas, saying Tuesday that it has purchase the output of the 240MW, Happy Hereford wind farm near Amarillo. Financial details of the deal were not disclosed, but Google said it has now contracted for more than 570 MW of wind energy, enough to power approximately 170,000 U.S. households. The wind farm is being developed by Chermac Energy, and is expected to start producing energy in late 2014. Google said the wind farm will supply power to its data center in Mayes County, Oklahoma.
