Freescale Adds MEMS Capability In Austin

Freescale Semiconductor, a developer of embedded semiconductors, said today that it has opened up a new line at its fab in Austin. The firm said the new 200mm productoin line will manufactur microelectromechanical systems (MEMS) sensors. The deviecs are used for airbags, automotive engines, blood pressure monitoring, and other applications. The firm said the new line at its Oak Hill Fab complements an existing, 150-mm MEMS line the firm operates in Sendai, Japan.
