EDS Expands Continental Airlines Deal

Plano-based IT outsourcing firm EDS revealed this morning that it will help air carrier Continental Airlines reduce flight operating expenses by automating certain aspects of flight planning. The financial impact of the customer win was not disclosed. EDS noted that, as part of its agreement with Continental, it will develop, implement and distribute enhanced Flight Planning Services, which will be delivered as a software-as-a-service based on EDS' Airline Service-Oriented Architecture. EDS said its Flight Planning module represents the fourth component in the flight operations suite that Continental is deploying to revamp its flight operations functions. In March 2008, EDS reported that it will develop Air-to-Ground Messaging Services, Load Planning Services and Aircraft Movement Services for the airline.
