Dell Looks To Data Center Design, Energy Efficiency

Round Rock-based Dell said Tuesday that the firm has released two new products focused at the data center market, and is looking to help companies design and simulate data centers with an eye to energy efficiency. According to Dell, it has rolled out two racks specifically geared toward improving energy efficiency in data centers, its Dell PowerEdge 4220 and PowerEdge 2420 rack enclosures. The firm said the new racks are designed to efficiently store, power, cool, manage and secure its storage and servers. In addition to the new hardware, Dell also said it data center consulting practice is using software for a firm called Future Facilities, to maximize space utilization and energy efficiency in data center designs. The data center consulting practice, offered to its clients, will applying best practices in data center design, layout and configuration, with a particular attention paid to efficiency and better energy consumption.
