Dell Goes Green, Adds Carbon Offsets

Dell has jumped on the environmental bandwagon, saying yesterday at CES that it is in a new, joint initiative with Carbonfund.org to offset carbon dioxide produced when customers power up their computer systems. Dell said that its new program, "Plant a Tree For Me", will allow customers to make a donation to The Conservation Fund and Carbonfund.org to plant trees in sustainable forests. Customer donations of $2 for a notebook and $6 for a desktop computer will go towards offsetting three years worth of carbon from an average computer. Dell also launched a new web site highlighting the firm's environmental responsibility programs.
