Dell Claims Strong School Interest In Netbooks

Round Rock-based Dell is reporting today that it is seeing "strong interest" in a new netbook that the firm is aiming at K-12 students, and has now signed up more than 500 school districts as purchasers of its netbook product. Dell said the schools are buying its Latititude 2100 netbook, which it launched last month. The Latitude 2100 is one of Dell's entrees into the hot "netbook" market, the lightweight, laptop-like products that computer manufacturers have begun to ship in volume recently. Dell's Latitude 2100 starts at around $369, and includes a 10.1 inch display, Intel Atom chipset, and either a solid state or traditional hard drive.
