Dell Claims Energy Efficiency Boost

Round Rock-based Dell said today that it has cut its customers' energy costs by 25 percent since 2008, via its efforts to reduce energy usage in its products. According to Dell, the gains come from reduction in energy of its desktops, laptops, and other products. Dell said the biggest gains game from its focus on energy efficiency of its OptiPlex desktops, which it says have improved 50 percent in energy efficiency between 2005 to 2008. The firm also said its use of LED displays on laptops also helped, consuming an average of 43 percent less power than CCFL technology.
