Apptricity Gets $50M From U.S. Government In License Dispute

Irving-based Apptricity, which develops enterprise resource and e-procurement software, said this morning that the U.S. Department of Justice and the Army have agreed to pay the company $50M to settle a copyright infringement claim. Apptricity said the claim came as a result of an over-deployment of its logistics software, which it says is being used to manage troop and supply movements. Apptricity said that it had sought compensation for 100 serer and thousands of device licenses, which had been deployed by the U.S. Army due to its need to move goods, equipment, and troops to forward operating basis without a contract. Apptricity said the amount represented a "fraction" of the software's contract value, and will also provide a quantity of licenses to the Department of Defense for future usage.
