Appconomy Taps Former Starbucks Exec For Global Efforts

Austin-based Appconomy, the developer of a cloud-based platform for mobile marketing, said this morning that it has named Joe Canterbury as head of its global market operations. Canterbury joins the company from Starbucks, where he was most recently Vice President of International Business Development. Canterbury has also served at Daimler, and also has an MBA from Texas A&M's Mays School of Business, among other degrees. Appconomy said that Canterbury was in charge of projects for Starbucks in China, India, Brazil, and across Europe. Appconomy, which is headed by Brian Magierski and Steve Papermaster, has significant international efforts, including major operations in Shanghai, along with the backing of Chinese investor Qiming Venture Partners and Neusoft. The firm also has the backing of True Ventures and Western Technology Investment.
