AT&T Plans In-Flight Wireless Service

Dallas-based AT&T said Monday afternoon that it is entering into the in-flight wireless market, and will begin offering up 4G, LTE-based air-to-ground service. According to AT&T, it will aim at providing in-flight broadband for commercial, business, and general avaiation, with service planned for as soon as late 2015. AT&T said it plans to build its own, air-to-ground network in the continental United States, which will reach up to 35,000 feet. AT&T said it would work with Honeywell on the effort. AT&T will be going up existing, in-flight wireless service providers such as Gogo.
