Texas Team To Compete In Lunar Landing Competition

The X PRIZE Foundation, the nonprofit group which funded the successful Ansari X PRIZE suborbital spaceflight competition, said this week that ten teams are competing in its upcoming 2008 Lunar Lander Challenge. At least one Texas team, Armadillo Aerospace, is competing in the competition, which looks to simulate a trip between the moon's surface and lunar orbit. The competition will aware two million dollars to the winning team. The Texas team is based out of Mesquite, and is led by John Carmack, who was a co-founder at id software, the firm which developed the popular Doom and Quake software titles. Nine other teams are competing in the event.
