Whole Foods Reports On Point Of Sale Systems Compromise

Austin-based Whole Foods Market says that it has concluded its investigation into the unauthorized access to payment card information at the company's stores--which were announced on September 28th--saying that its investigations have determined that unauthorized, third-party software had been loaded onto certain point-of-sale systems at tap rooms and full table-service restaurants located within some of its stores. That software had copied such information as payment card account numbers, card expiration dates, internal verification codes, and cardholder names. According to Whole Foods, it used a un-named cybersecurity forensics firm, and contact law enforcement about the breach, and that it has replaced those point of sale systems and stopped the unauthorized activity. Whole Foods said no transactions related to Amazon.com were affected.
