Calxeda Nabs $12M More As It Nears Market

Austin-based low voltage semiconductor developer Calxeda has raised another $12M in funding, according to a regulatory filing by the firm today, as the firm is on the cusp of shipping chips for servers based on 32-bit ARM mobile processors. According to the filing, the firm is in the midst of a $30M fundraising effort, of which so far $20M was raised. The funding round was kicked off in July of last year, and the firm reported an additional $12M in that round this week in the filing. According to industry magazine the IEEE Spectrum, Calxeda is getting set to ship its ARM-based chips, and is expected to hit the market first in applying low-power chips for the server market. Calxeda is going up against such competitors as Intel, AppliedMicro, and others in using low power processors for the high performance server market. More information »
