Dell: We're Number One In Open Storage

Round Rock-based Dell said Friday that it has captured the lead position in the open systems external worldwide disk array storage market, citing numbers from analyst firm Gartner, Inc. According to Dell, citing Gartner numbers, it had 20.4 percent of the Windows/Linux external worldwide disk array storage market, with $422M in revenue, a lead over its nearest competitor, with 18.5 percent and $384M in revenues. Gartner's overall report still ranks EMC, IBM, HP, and Hitachi Data Systems over Dell in overall external controller disk storage numbers, however, Dell was bolstered significantly by its purchase of EqualLogic in November of last year for $1.4B; EqualLogic was a significant provider of iSCSI-based, open systems storage.
