Southwest Research Institute Selected By DARPA For Robotics Challenge
San Antonio-based research and development institutions Southwest Research Institute (SwRI) says it has been selected by the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST), to support the upcoming Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA) Robotics Challenge (DRC) Trials. DARPA's latest robotics challenge is geared around developing humanoid robot technology (think C3PO) for responding to natural or man-made disasters. SwRI said it will develop and support test apparatuses used to evaluate the competitors in the competition, along with supplying a simulator software to test algorithms and robot test-bed software for testing algorithms involved with the competition. Financial details of the win were not disclosed.
