Austin-based Silicon Laboratories announced a new, hybrid TV tuning chip this morning. According to Silicon Labs, its new chip is targeted at allowing TV makers to improve picture quality and reception in their designs. The new, Si2170 chip combines both a TV tuner and analog TV demodulator on a single CMOS iC, which the firm said should enable a simpler design, lower manufacturing cost, and higher production yields, in addition to better reliability for digital TVs, set top boxes, and other applications.
