SemiSouth Gets SBIR Grant

Austin-based SemiSouth, a developer of silicon carbide (SiC) semiconductors, said today that it has been awarded a Small Business Innovative Research (SBIR) Phase I contract. According to the firm, the grant was related to the military's interest in its high voltage, high-frequency power transitors. Size of the grant was not disclosed. SemiSouth said the grant is the 17th Phase I or Phase II SBIR/STTR contract it has received related to its technology. The work is with the Navy, focused on high-speed JFETs, and which the firm said will also be applicable to solar and wind renewable energy.
