SemiSouth Gets $4.9M Air Force Award

Austin-based SemiSouth Laboratories, a developer of silicon carbide (SiC) semiconductors, said today that it has received $4.9M in funding from the Air Force Research Laboratory at Wright-Patterson Air Force Base in Dayton, Ohio. The award is a part of a Small Business Technology Transfer (STTR) award for developing silicon carbide (SiC) power semiconductor devices for harsh environment applications. SemiSouth said the award came as part of a five-year contract it was awarded in 2006. SemiSouth's technology is targeted at reducing size and weight of components in power electronics, which the company said will help the Air Force in developing smaller, lighter, and faster aircraft.
