Rackspace Wins Defense Deal
San Antonio-based Rackspace, a provider of colocation and hosting services, has scored a win in the UK with that nation's Ministry of Defence. According to Rackspace, it won a three year competitive deal to support a server farm for the Ministry of Defence, Army, Royal Navy, and Royal Air Force websites. Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed. Rackspace said it beat 18 other companies to win the deal. Rackspace said the arrangement revolves around the use of server virtualization, consolidating 67 servers into 12 physical hypervisors and 72 virtual servers, hosting such things as Navy and Air Force recruitment sites, short-term public information campaign signs, and more.
