    Southwest Airlines To Roll Out Full Wi-Fi Support
    Dallas-based Southwest Airlines said Friday that it is officially rolling out full wireless Internet support on its full fleet of 540 planes, after a successful test trial. According to Southwest, it will begin installing about 15 aircraft a month starting in the second quarter, ramping up to 25 installs per month, with complete installation of its planes by early 2012.     Abilene Christian Plans iPad Student Newspaper
    Abilene-based Abilene Christian University has its eyes on Apple's much heralded tablet PC, the Apple iPad, and says it already has plans to publish a student newspaper on the platform. The school said it will be the first student newspaper to publish on the iPad, in an effort being run by ACU's Department of Journalism and Mass Communication.     Hyper9 Partners With Irish Firm
    Austin-based Hyper9, a developer of software for managing virtualized data centers, reported earlier this week that it has partnered with Ireland-based DNM Technology, a consulting firm specializing in virtualization, database, storage management, and business intelligence. The firm said that DNM will become an official reseller of its Hyper9 Virtual Environment Optimization product. DNM Technology is based in Dublin.     NextIO Hires Marketing VP
    Austin-based NextIO, a developer of I/O virtualization products for the data center market, said this week that Mike Heumann has joined the firm as its Vice President of Worldwide Marketing. Heumann has served at such companies as Astute Networks, Dot Hill, AMCC, and JNI. The firm said that Heumann has over 25 years of high tech marketing and sales experience.     UnboundID Names Bizdev VP
    Austin-based UnboundID, a developer of identity management software, said earlier this week that it has named Emeka Obianwu as the firm's new Vice President of Business Development. The firm said that Obianwu joins the firm from Troux Technologies, and has also served at BuildForge and IBM, after IBM acquired BuildForge. UnboundID said Obianwu will oversee the firm's partner, channel, and other market expansion efforts. UnboundID is backed by Silverton Partners.

    Worksoft Claims Record 2009
    Dallas-based Worksoft, a developer of lifecycle management software for SAP, claimed Thursday that it had record revenues for 2009, with a 43 percent, year to year increase in its revenues. No actual financials were released. According to the firm, the results were boosted in Q4 by a "significant" number of Global 400 customers, with its Q4 setting a company record for revenue and new customers. Worksoft is venture backed by Austin Ventures and Crescendo Ventures.

    Southwest Rolls iPhone App
    Dallas-based Southwest Airlines announced Thursday that it has launched its first app for the iPhone and iPod touch. According to Southwest, the new application--which is free--allows its customers to book reservations, checkin for flights, check flight status, and also to tap into its DING! discounted fare service. The new app is available via Southwest's web site or through the Apple App store.
