Despite all of the hype around connected devices this week at CES, it looks like all is not well at Austin-based Macheen--one of the companies here which has been fairly involved with that industry. Macheen has apparently laid of a number of it staff, and swapped out its CEO, according to the Austin Business Journal. Macheen has not confirmed or announced any details of the move. Macheen develops software and services which help connect laptops, tablets, and other devices to the Internet in an "a-la-carte" fashion, letting companies access things like email or other web services at a dramatically lower cost than expensive broadband and cellular data plans. The company has recently started focusing directly on end users--particularly business users--as its plan to pursue OEMs has apparently not taken off as well as the company has hoped.
