Luminex Ups Acquisition of Nanosphere To $77M

Austin-based scientific equipment maker Luminex Corporation said today that it has raised its agreement to buy molecular diagnostics equipment maker Nanosphere, to $1.70 per share in cash, or approximately $77M, above an earlier $1.35 per share offer. The two said the increased offer for the company comes due to an unsolicited, third party offer for Nanosphere, which was for $1.50 per share. Luminex had originally announced the deal to buy Nanosphere on May 16th. Luminex develops polymerase chain reaction (PCR) and related equipment.
