SolarWinds Buys Assets Of New Zealand Firm Austin-based SolarWinds, which develops network management software, said Monday that it has acquired the technology products of New Zealand's Kiwi Enterprises. Kiwi is a developer of tools used by network engineers to manage syslog messages from network devices. Financial terms of the asset purchase deal were not disclosed. RipCode Scores $12.5M Dallas-based RipCode, which develops video transcoding hardware and products, announced today that it has raised more than $12.5M in a new funding round for the firm. According to RipCode, the new funding was led by Granite Ventures, in a deal which also included prior investors Hunt Ventures, El Dorado Ventures, Vesbrige Partners, and ATA VEntures. Silicon Labs Promotes Long-Time Exec Integrated circuit manufacturer Silicon Laboratories Inc. reported Monday that it has promoted Mark Thompson to vice president and general manager of its microcontroller products division. Thompson, the Austin-based company said, replaces Coker, who retired before the New Year. Lynn Kirkpatrick has come aboard as president and chief executive officer. Online Holiday Sales Down 3 Percent; Dell Visitors Drop Holiday shopping on e-commerce sites declined by 3 percent, according to the latest numbers released by comScore, which tracking online spending and internet traffic. comScore reported Tuesday that spending for the holiday season, beginning November 1st and ending December 23rd, totaled $25.5 billion, down 3 percent versus 2007. Motion Computing Gains $6M Austin-based Motion Computing said late last week that it has raised $6M in a new funding round. The funding came from New Enterprise Associates, Institutional Venture Partners, G-51 Capital, and other investors. According to the firm, the funding will go towards expansion into the healthcare market and towards international growth. Motion Computing develops tablet PCs to the healthcare industry and other vertical markets.
