HomeAway Offers Up Vacation Tax Filing Help
Austin-based HomeAway said today that it has linked up with a provider of vacation rental tax filing services, to help its vacation rental owners meet compliance rules. According to HomeAway, it has launched the HotSpot Tax Center, in conjunction with HotSpot Tax, to help provide automated, web-based tax filing for state and local short-term rental taxes. HomeAway specifically said that the link comes as 14 states and many, many cities in the U.S. are actively investigation vacation rental regulations, which has caused a lot of confusion with vacation rental owners, on how to comply with those tax regulations. HomeAway said the deal will help its vacation rental owners to be aware of and comply with their legal responsibilities. HomeAway, as well as competitors such as Airbnb and others, have been facing increasing scrutiny from local governments over those tax payments.
