A new report issued today, detailing the impact of the technology industry on the U.S., says that Austin is one of the top technology metropolitan areas in the nation in terms of high tech employment concentration. The study--issued by the Bay Area Council Economic Institute and sponsored by Austin Technology Council partner Engine Advocacy--ranked Austin as number 14 in the nation for high tech employment concentration, at 10.7% of private sectors jobs in technology. The report, which analyzed patterns of high-technology employment and wages in the United States, said that high tech jobs are a "critical source" of employment and income in the U.S. economy. The highest area of technology job concentration, not surprisingly, was the San Jose-Sunnyvale-Santa Clara metropolitan area, with 28.8% of jobs in technology in the region.
