Austin, Texas-based AlterPoint, a provider of network management products, said this week that it has created a new open source project named ZipTie. The group will focus on expanding network management beyond proprietary vendor device management. AlterPoint said that the new open source group will provide a framework for network inventory management. The ZipTie project includes device discovery, network device comparison and configuration change detection, distribution, and other network management tools.
