Alereon Rolls Laptop-to-HDTV Wireless Design
Austin-based Alereon, a developer of wireless chipsets, announced Tuesday that it has rolled out a new reference design which allows OEMs to connect laptops wirelessly to HDTVs. The firm said its NoWire Laptop to HDTV Extender Kit reference design allows consumers to connect their laptop via a USB dongle to HDMI enabled, HDTVs via a wireless connection. The firm said that it believes streaming audio, video, and PC applications from a laptop to an HDTV is the next "killer app". Alereon's reference design supports resolutions of up to 1680x1050 graphics or 720p video, at a distance of 30 feet. The firm said the HDTV wireless HDMI products will be available to OEMs in Q1.
